چکیده

THmRE has been a recent revival of interest in the operation of peripheral iridectomy for subacute intermittent closed-angle glaucoma. This is partly because it is an operation of small risk which is effective, if its indications are respected. Its chief value is in subacute closed-angle glaucoma before peripheral anterior synechiae have formed and as a prophylactic measure when the fellow eye has suffered from an acute congestive attack. The revival of interest is also related to present-day ideas on the aetiology of closed-angle glaucoma. Those who believe in the mechanism of relative pupillary, block find in its success confirmation of their theoretical conclusions with regard to the importance ofiris bombe as a factor in the aetiology of this type of glaucoma. The operation was described by Pfluiger (1893-4); it was modified and recommended in America by Curran (1920) and in Europe by Baenziger (1922). Precise indications for the operation have gradually become apparent through the work of Barkan (1938, 1939, 1954a,b), Chandler (1952), Chandler and Trotter (1955), and Haas and Scheie (1952).

The Slate turkey: a model for secondary angle closure glaucoma.

An inherited eye disease leading to a secondary angle closure glaucoma has been observed in turkeys (Meleagris gallapavo) of the Slate variety. The initial indications of the disease involve a low grade aqueous cell and flare reaction, associated with progressive posterior synechiae formation resulting in pupillary block and iris bombé. A midperipheral iridocorneal adhesion follows, accompanied...

Gonioscopic Features in Patients with Acute and Chronic Angle-Closure Glaucoma

Background: A number of ocular biometric parameters, iris hiotologic and anatomic characters have been suggested as inciting factors for converting patients with narrow angle to angle-closure glaucoma. This study was conducted to determine if there was any goniscopic difference between patients with acute angle-closure glaucoma (AACG) and chronic angle-closure glaucoma (CACG). Methods: ...

Glutathione s-transferase M1 and T1 genetic polymorphisms in Iranian patients with glaucoma

Objective(s):Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness and it is related to oxidative stress based on numerous studies. Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) are members of multigenic family, which have important role in cells as an antioxidant. In the present study, we examined the polymorphism of GSTT1 and GSTM1 deletion genotypes (T0M1, T1M0, and T0M0) in 100 Glaucoma patients (41with pr...

Self-limiting Acute Closed-angle Glaucoma with Segmental Iris Shortening.

TBE purpose of this communication is to record a series of cases of acute closed-angle glaucoma which appear to have resolved permanently without operation because of shortening of a segment of the iris. This shortening of a segment of the iris has been great enough, we believe, in these cases to eliminate relative "pupillary block" and therefore iris bombe; enough residual angle has then opene...

Diagnosis of pupillary block glaucoma after removal of congenital cataracts with intraoperative ultrasound biomicroscopy: a case report

BACKGROUND Aphakic glaucoma is a common complication after congenital cataract extraction, especially in those who have surgery during infancy. This case report describes a case of bilateral pupillary block glaucoma diagnosed with intraoperative ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) after removal of congenital cataract. CASE PRESENTATION We present a case report of a 9-month-old infant with bilatera...
